Karachi: Renowned businessman and former president of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Siraj Kassam Teli passed away in Dubai on Tuesday after suffering a cardiac arrest.
KCCI confirmed the news issuing a statement in which deep grief and sorrow was expressed by prominent members of the business industrial community over Teli’s tragic demise.
“The Karachi Chamber of commerce and industry will remain close for three days except for the attestation and media departments, to mourn the sad demise of Kassam Teli. Attestation and media department will remain partially open.” Said the statement.
Teli had passed away due to complications arising out of pneumonia. He had travelled to Dubai with his family and had contracted pneumonia, recently. Said Businessman Javed Bilwani
His lungs were affected, leading to breathing problems. His health condition was deteriorated and was hospitalized. He was put on the ventilator on Monday night and passed away on Tuesday morning, he said.
The deceased was in his late 60s and leaves behind two children — a son and a daughter — and his wife. Teli’s body will be brought to Karachi for burial after fulfilling legal formalities in Dubai. Bilwani Said.
Teli on the horizon
For his contribution to the national economy and public service, He was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by former president Asif Ali Zardari.
Teli was known for his extraordinary leadership of the business and industrial community over the past 25 years as Chairman of the Businessmen Group.
He belonged to a renowned family that has been dynamic in business since the foundation of Pakistan. Teli was a renowned industrialist and brought innovative and progressive reforms in trade politics and in operational matters of KCCI.
Responding to the news, Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Dr Arif Alvi offered their condolences over the demise of Siraj Kassam Teli.
Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwalla said Siraj Kassam Teli “always stood for business community and for the people of Pakistan”.
