A spokesperson for National Accountability Bureau (NAB) confirmed that PML-N senior leader and former foreign minister Khawaja Asif has been arrested by NAB in Islamabad on Tuesday.

“NAB Lahore has arrested Khawaja Muhammad Asif in assets beyond mean case,” the official told to Pardachaak

The official said Asif would be presented before an accountability court on Wednesday to get his remand.

The PML-N leader was directed by NAB to submit details of the salary he received and other information about his sources of income. He was also asked to provide the job application he had submitted to a foreign company as well as the iqama agreement he held.

“Khawaja Asif continuously failed to cooperate with NAB during the inquiry and that he was detained with the approval of chairman NAB.” the spokesperson said.

NAB spokesperson said that Khawaja Asif obtained an iqama from 2004 to 2008 and he claimed to have earned a worth of Rs136 million for his services as a consultant legal adviser.

According to the NAB’s spokesperson, the PML-N leader had earlier been summoned for an initial inquiry but he failed to provide the required evidence and supporting proofs.
